Fun In The Sun Friday with Softspoken

2016’s Fun In The Sun Friday column features people involved in music coming forward and sharing their summer playlists (see past playlists here). This week we invite Softspoken to share their summer playlist with us.

Softspoken comment on their favorite track:

“Our favorite summer songs range from heavy and driving to chilled out and relaxed. It’s hard to pick an overall favorite out of all of them, but overall the new single ‘Bad Vibrations’ from ADTR has been jamming on all of our playlists recently… though we all like it for the good vibes.”

About Softspoken:

Hailing from Louisville, Kentucky, post-hardcore band Softspoken is comprised of Logan Combs, Chris Wethington, Billy Zimpelman, Garrett Harper, and Zach Payne. What was originally just a personal project for Wethingting while living in Japan turned into a full-fledged band once he made the decision to return to the US in December of 2015. By the end of January, the band was fully formed and writing. They recorded their first single with Zach Sebastian at Third Eye Studios in Cincinnati, OH, and released it as their debut on March 25ht. Shortly thereafter they traveled to Lancaster, PA to perform at LAUNCH Music Festival & Conference, and then again hit the road to Phoenix, AZ where they recorded their upcoming EP.

Their debut EP, produced by Cameron Mizell at Chango Studios, is due for release later this year and discusses challenges that many individuals face including addiction and mental illness. As mentioned by the band, “We want our music to be thought and emotion provoking and therapeutic. We’re doing this music as a form of healing for ourselves and we also think and hope that people out there listening to it can find a similar source of vitality from it.” The EP combines an eclectic mix of energized rock and ambient post-metal, while dynamically blending both aggressive rhythms and soft grooves punctuated with a soaring and emotional range of vocals to produce a refreshing counterbalance of established sounds. The band expanded, “We use different time signatures, and primarily sing over heavier parts where screaming is the norm.”

Off the upcoming EP comes “I Feel Fire” a collaborative effort featuring Rory Rodriguez of Dayseeker.
