In its 16th year there is no way that anyone is really going to tell you their favorite Punk Rock Bowling memory, but we got a few people that can be expected every year to share with us some memories that are fit to be shared.
Bob Oedy (The Grim)
In 2006 going to see The Riverboat Gamblers for the first time with a group of strangers I had just met moments earlier at a bar at Sam’s Town. I had the time of my life. Tim Grim introduced me to some of his friends and asked if they would accompany me to the show. I was reluctant to go because I wasn’t familiar with any of the bands on the bill: The Swingin’ Utters, The Briefs, and The Riverboat Gamblers. The energy of the show was amazing! All the bands were fantastic and exceeded everyone’s expectations BUT The Riverboat Gamblers put on a show that reminded me of the time I first saw The Ramones or even The Dead Kennedys or KISS. They were that good! And my new friends accepted me without any preconditions or expectations, just good people open to having an awesome weekend. They really looked out for me and made sure I was safe and having a good time. Later that weekend our team won second place in the bowling tournament. I’ve been going every year since.
My band The Grim played Punk Rock Bowling in 2011. It seemed like all my friends were there. We shared the stage with Stiff Little Fingers. It doesn’t get much better than that. We’re playing again this year with Poison Idea. It’s a dream come true.
