Formed in 2005, Portland, Maine natives RUIN have made a name for themselves in the US Northeast and beyond, developing their own original brand of metal with influences in thrash and groove. RUIN’s latest release, Rite of Passage, hit the shelves last October and made a strong impact. The four-piece recently took their distinguished no-holds-barred thrash/groove metal sound – reminiscent of bands such as Strapping Young Lad and Fear Factory – on the road in the eastern US.
The band offered us a look into what they consider the top 5 battle/fight scenes in movies. Check out their list below.
TOP 5 BATTLE/FIGHT SCENES
1. The Predator – Arnold Schwarzenegger vs. the Predator – There’s too much to talk about here. Predator is hands down one of the best sci-fi horror movies ever made. After the Predator rips his way through Arnold’s team, Arnold throws down in one of the most epic ‘against all odds’ fight against a fucking alien! All the traps, the one liners, and the epic huge yell that he lets out at the beginning to call him in is amazing. We are huge fans of Arnold and Predator especially.
2. Team America – Battle of France – This opening scene really sets the pace for this comedy. Between destroying all of the main historical monuments in Paris and the Kung Fu fight between one of the team members and a terrorist sets this battle near the top. Everything is Bon!
3. Game of Death – Bruce Lee vs Kareem Abdul – Jabbar – because it was Bruce Lee’s last film before he died. He’s actually only in the final fight scene. The rest of the movie was filmed with a look-a-like and released after his death. He climbs different levels and fights different dudes that have different styles until he reaches Kareem Abdul Jabbar! The Part where Abdul-Jabbar kicks him and leaves a huge footprint on his chest is bad ass! Two members of RUIN actually taught themselves how to use nun chucks by slowing that scene down!
4. The Warriors – The Warrior vs. Baseball Furies – This might seem cheesy as hell now, but back in the day watching these guys fight with baseball bats was nuts! Especially since they’re running away outnumbered and just say screw it and turn around. “I’m sick of running from these pussies!” Awesome line.
5. Ace Ventura: Pet Detective – Ace vs. Mascot Parrot – This scene is absolutely hilarious “You cost me $25 grand polly,” “Ya, blow me!” The opening 1-2 combo that Ace delivers is on point.
