From the Japanese noise pop of Haru Nemuri to the 20th release from Australia’s King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard, here is all of the new noise you may have missed from this week.
Fontaines D.C – Skinty Fia (Partisan Records)

On the Irish post-punk group’s third record they blaze into new territory. Building up from a sound based in post-punk and garage classics like Joy Division and The Clash Skinty Fia feels miles away from the group’s debut record.
Elements of psychedelic, goth, and so many more styles are blended into the post-punk sound most are accustomed to from the band. Lead singer Grian Chatten delivers one of his best, if not the best, vocal performances, blending dark and twisted lyrics with hypotonic harmonies, it’s truly something to marvel at.
Skinty Fia is out on Partisan Records.

King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard – Omnium Gatherum (Flightless Records)

A decade after their first release, Australia psych rock wizards King Gizzard have made it to their 20th record. Having crossed paths with just about every genre from Tool based prog rock to Motorhead-esque hard rock to bubbly pop music, Omnium Gatherum is a difficult record to pin down.
It’s a record that melds together just about every style of music the band has played with over their career. There are soft psychedelic jams building off of hypnotic synthesizer leads paired next to full-blown, hardcore, 18-minute jam songs. Fans in every corner of the Gizzard universe will find something to love on this one.
Omnium Gatherum is out on Flightless Records.

Spiritualized – Everything Was Beautiful (Bella Union / Fat Possum Records)

Spiritualized, the musical project of Jason Pierce has always taken large gaps between releases. After putting out some of their best material in the late ’90s and early 2000s releases came few and far between. It wasn’t until 2018s And Nothing Hurt that pierce broke a six year hiatus from music.
Now, the latest Everything Was Beautiful has come to follow up that wondrous comeback LP. Much like the name would suggest this is a very beautiful crafted and highly spiritual record. It’s the type that you can concentrate intensely on or zone out to completely.
Everything Was Beautiful is out on Bella Union / Fat Possum Records.

Haru Nemuri – SHUNKA RYOUGEN (To3s Records)

Haru Nemuri is perhaps the best in the business at combining noise rock and JPop, which maybe is saying much because how many noise JPop have you heard recently? That being said, Nemuri has stumbled into one of the most unique and inventive sounds in the world at the moment.
SHUNKA RYOUGEN is a much more textured and rich record that previous releases. The songs are much more anthemic in nature, there’s a higher production value. This is the record that people who listened to 2018s harutosyura wanted to see. It proves what the power of refinement can produce.
