We’re pleased to bring you the exclusive Track-By-Track for Everley‘s upcoming release The Tyger and the Lamb, out today and available on iTunes and Bandcamp.
Track-By-Track
The entire album concept is about contrasting perspectives, and situations that we (as humans) might encounter throughout our lives. “The Tyger” and “The Lamb” are contrasting poems written by William Blake that give alternate perspectives on life. They are each a part of a collections of poems – The Songs of Innocence and The Songs of Experience. Basically, the theme of the album is the struggle between the alternate perspectives of multiple circumstances.
“Not Waving, but Drowning”
The album opener is about the struggle of addiction, and the sometimes, lack of support you can receive from those around you who have not had the similar experience. Locked in a self-centered disease where your decisions are based truly on what you want and how you’re going to get it..comes a life that wreaks havoc on essentially every human being you come in contact with. The song encompasses the perspective of having destroyed relationships with people you love, and having built them up only to let them down. It also paints the picture of being at a point of willingness and determination to change one’s life, but not having any faith from people who love you, due to past experiences.
“The Cardinal”
Becoming whole within yourself and deciding that life is more important than chasing unreachable goals. It is about understanding that everything you might have been told is questionable, and that the only thing that is real is what you feel, what you do, and how you live. The Cardinal puts a light on self sufficiency.
“Daggers of Self Doubt”
The struggles within a relationship. The inadequacies of reality mixed with other damaging emotions can wreck any relationship, if allowed. Human beings have a huge impact on one another, especially in an intimate relationship. A lot of times, people’s feelings of worth and overall level of satisfaction in life, get controlled by relationships. Daggers of Self Doubt is a piece focused on how we influence each other, and how negative energy can be sent through acts of manipulation and selfishness.
“The Tyger”
Coming to the understanding of life, and that it is all a matter of perspective and understanding. The Tyger puts into perspective that human beings are able to push and pull reality to points of being skewed, but that reality is still reality, perspective changes everything.
“Waif, the Youngling”
The experience of a young boy that grows up with a distant mother. Growing up in her stranger ridden home wondering how he can get the emotional nourishment he needs. The character is constantly questioning their own mothers understanding of life, and what is important.
“Marooned”
The isolation you need to separate yourself from damaging relationships in your life; whether it be family, friends, or a spouse. Marooned is focused in taking the needed distance to create your own sense of understanding and your own path.
“Reflection|Perfection”
Looking at yourself from the inside out. Reflection|Perfection is about questioning your own beliefs in order to gain a better understanding. Questioning, finding out why you believe what you do, finding out what has influenced you to be where you are; these are areas of thought that are never bad things to invest in individually. We are influenced by so many things in life, it’s enlightening to look at where our mold came from.
“The Lamb”
The struggle humanity has endured while remaining undyingly faithful. Only having small doubts and questions, we have erased them if but for no other reason than fear. Fear or faith. Fear of faith. The Lamb is a character whom plays the innocent role and is influenced by beliefs of other people, but comes to a point of doubt and question, but has his doubt erased and shrugged off by someone who is scared to invest in questioning.
“Empiricism”
The invincibility complex; only learning from what you can see, and what you learn from experience. You don’t know what is hot until you touch it, and you don’t know what will kill you until it does. The main concern you have is that you are the center of the world, and everything is in motion around you at your will. Empiricism shines focus on a characteristic most human beings struggle with at some point. Self centeredness is easy to obtain in a world where you can essentially do whatever you want. The crisis at hand is the power of selfishness, and how negative and damaging it can be.
“Prayers, Not Made for Me”
At some point, we take a look back at life and death, and are amazed at what has been given. To try and understand what has happened throughout your time, and what you are responsible for, is an enlightening experience. We realize how so many silly thoughts and flaws controlled so much of our life, and are baffled at the power our perception has on our thoughts and actions.
The Tyger and the Lamb is a compilation of experiences intended to shed light on our spiritual existence. This album shares various experiences people are capable of going through; different views, different questions. Overall, this album gives contrast to different sides of the spectrum. The Tyger and the Lamb encompasses fear, faith, fear of faith, selfishness, manipulation, doubt, entitlement, abandonment, and perception.
