Track By Track – Hungover – ‘WILT’ (Re-Release)

Hungover

Hungover is more than a feeling, it’s a feel good rock band from Orlando, Florida. Their hooks are large, really grasping an understanding of infectious dynamics in their tracks. In 2016 the band released their EP WILT. A full two years and plenty of road experience later, Hungover are signed to Smartpunk Records, with a re-release of their phenomenal debut.

To celebrate the re-release of WILT, New Noise Magazine asked Hungover to write about the meaning of each track! Take a listen to the record from the five piece below, whether familiar or not, and enjoy the start to your weekend.

“Three’s Company” is a song about being on the wrong end of a love triangle and getting yourself out of an awkward situation. It’s definitely one of our more pop-oriented songs.

“Girlfriend” is a song about repeating bad habits in new relationships. Straight up pop punk vibes on this one and a really fun live song.

“Fever” is about struggling addiction and depression. Lyrically the song is an extended metaphor that personifies addiction itself.

Sometimes you simply can’t stand to keep someone around anymore, but they can’t take a hint, so you have to write a song about it. That’s exactly what “Around” is. It’s probably the closest thing we have to a ballad.

In a way, “Exit: Stage Left” is a follow up to “Around.” It’s also about someone lingering, but you’re past the point of singing/writing about it. You’re letting them go instead of letting them down.

“Falling Out” is a song about the fear of growing up and adulthood disguised as a groovy dance jam. Sometimes you have to get down and shake your anxieties out.

Growing up in a broken home is far too common and “Irish Goodbye” is a specific, autobiographical take on what that’s like. This song is deeply personal.

“Sleep Alone” is about a psychological tug of war with a past partner that only wants you around when they’re feeling lonely. They try to keep you tied up so that they can pull you back in whenever it’s convenient for them.
