Every band and musician wants to capture their live sound in a recording. It’s a common goal all artists share when they’re in the studio and the difficulty that comes with achieving it is very much understated. English indie rock trio The Cribs seem to have done that with the release of their music video for the new track “In Your Palace”. The brothers Gary, Ryan and Ross Jarman go back to their punk roots with an edgy and emphatic tone. Along with the release, these Brits will be crossing over the Atlantic in September for another expedition of North America.
“We shot this video with our friend Andy Knowles, who we’ve worked with before,” Gary Jarman says on the band’s latest release. “He knows us really well and what we like and don’t like. As a rule, the longer we are on camera the more uncomfortable we get so we needed to make a video really fast. The concept Andy came up with only required us to only be set for 12 seconds maximum, sounded like a good plan to us! It was therefore the easiest and quickest video we have ever made, aside from some major performance anxiety.”
The highlight of the bubble being blown in the video was definitely a challenge. “I have been confident in my own bubble blowing ability since I was about 7, but while having to do it on demand under the lights I just kind of forgot how to do it”, Gary continued. “Just when it looked like it wasn’t going to happen we switched from our regulation, studio-provided gum, which was Bazooka Joe, to the green apple flavored Hubba Hubba and after that we just one-taked the shot. Shout out to Hubba Hubba, the only choice for the serious bubble power.”
Check out the black and white music video and enjoy. Make sure to catch a show when The Cribs are in the States as well.
