We’re pleased to bring you the premiere of Damn Jackals’ new music video for their song “That’s It” (watch it below). The song is the title track from the band’s latest EP, which is available now through iTunes, Apple Music, Spotify, and all major digital distributors.
Damn Jackals vocalist/guitarist Beau Croxton comments:
“The message for Damn Jackals’ ‘That’s It’ is pretty simple: no one person or government can deprive you of ambition & desire unless you let them. Let your freak-flag fly high , stay awake , keep love as the answer. Regarding inspiration for the track, I had just made a playlist of my favorite Black Flag, Bad Brains, Devo and other early punkish songs for a friend and Mike Goehler (producer) wanted to record a quick vintage punk song. The fun lyrics and pokey keyboards were added after which rounded it out to have a nice post punk and modern vibe. The video was about doing the same style as our last video… but on steroids. In the silly take of me singing in the backdrop, I was trying to make our guitarist Willie Mosto laugh , and ended up keeping a lot of the take because it fit the vibe perfectly. Our drummer James is a real MVP for playing his part all day for numerous takes… and yes, that is real blood at the end, which perfectly portrayed lyrics like ‘Show for those who throw some blood on the floor.'”
Damn Jackals is a 5-piece, indie/garage rock/punk band formed by Beau Croxton (singer/guitarist) and Mike Goehler (producer) in the summer of 2014.
The band’s sound is reminiscent of early 70s Bowie/T. Rex glam rock and classic punk styles of Johnny Thunders, Iggy &The Stooges, and Television, punctuated by distorted, wailing synth, guitar lines and Croxton’s fuzzed-out vocals. In 2015, Damn Jackals evolved from a 2-piece collaboration into a Brooklyn based 5-piece band , adding Willie Mosto (guitar), Paul Truitt (keys/guitar), Forrest Hackenbrock (bass), and James Esposito (drums) to the line-up.
Damn Jackals frequently feature a three piece horn section, consisting of notable touring act-alumni Carter Yasutake (David Byrne & St. Vincent, Charles Bradley), Jason Disu (David Byrne & St. Vincent, LCD Soundsystem), and Noah Dreiblatt (Blitz the Ambassador). The band resides natively in Brooklyn where they perform regularly.
The band’s just released EP That’s It is a sampler for larger, future releases recorded at Crooked Castle, Croxton’s studio/home in upstate New York. Damn Jackals’ debut album Crooked Castle (Vol l) will follow the release of the EP.
Damn Jackals’ “Thats It” video finds the band channeling the raw power of Iggy & The Stooges and The Ramones, with a paranoid precision similar to The Strokes & Devo.
