Desertfest are thrilled to reveal the final acts completing the line-up of the inaugural New York edition, taking place at Saint Vitus Bar on Friday 26th April and The Well on Saturday 27th & Sunday 28th April.
Joining the likes of WINDHAND, ELDER and MONOLORD will be sludge metal stalwarts BLACK COBRA, the Californian duo unapologetically and utterly seamlessly pummel a plethora of punk, doom, heavy metal and everything in-between into tunes that are fast, loud and at times, weirdly fucking groovy. Upon first listen it may be hard to comprehend that BLACK COBRA are made of up just two members – but their sheer force and power is like an army of body builders, all driving ten-tonne trucks that have just cartwheeled over fifty jet planes… ok, so now just image the setting for that is the legendary Saint Vitus in Brooklyn and you’ve got our opening party for DF NYC nailed.
Main support to BLACK COBRA comes from the fuzzy, guitar bending sounds of HERE LIES MAN. The West Coast quartet of funk-riff fusion have been hitting the circuit hard since their last release, delivering live shows that are nothing short of a forcefield of tone and excitement for listeners and well it seems like HERE LIES MAN are as ready for April as we are: “The excitement of going to New York to play Desertfest feels like the moment right before the acid kicks in. We’re coming to freak out.”
WEEDEATER require next to no introduction, as a band that have been with us since the beginnings of Desertfest, our Southern brothers whole heartedly exude the entire ethos of our festival in one fail, whiskey stained swig… If you don’t know, you better get to know – one of the best live acts to have ever existed, period.
Also across the weekend we have high-octane stoner rock’n’rollers ASG whose take on good ol’ fashioned riffs rarely falters – providing grins and high fives to all in their path. One of the most influential stoner rock bands of all time FATSO JETSON will be schooling DF NYC in the true meaning of ‘Desert’. Plus, the hypnotic & deeply layered psychedelic vibes of RUBY THE HATCHET, a long-awaited return from Bay Area pioneers HIGH TONE SON OF A BITCH – featuring members of Noothgrush and Kalas HTSOB has seen tragedy and changes aplenty, but that hasn’t stopped their drive and we’re thrilled to welcome them onboard. A flurry of memorable hook-driven boogie starters from Ohio’s ELECTRIC CITIZEN, raucous party vibes from London riff-lords STEAK, along with local street walkin’ cheetahs MICK’S JAGUAR.
And if that wasn’t enough we’re rounding off this monumental announcement with a set of 70s doom worship in the form of DUEL, ‘tune in and drop out’ Philly magicians HEAVY TEMPLE, NYC hard rock outfit TOWER, who we’ve heard know how to bring a good time like few other NY acts – Sarabeth shares her thoughts: “It’s an honor to play with the best of the underground scene, including friends and inspirations alike. With newfound strength and fresh blood, we are ready to put on a show for the ages!” And from slightly further afield the Tokyo based psych-prog melting pot of GREEN MILK FROM THE PLANET ORANGE and finally cosmic-grunge rule breakers SUN VOYAGER.
