Finding The Sacred Heart: Live In Philly 1986
(Eagle Rock Entertainment)
An impressive, high-def presentation of a 1986 Dio concert taped in Philadelphia from their Sacred Heart tour. Don’t let the date fool you though; the quality of this DVD is immaculate, both visually and sonically. All the classic Dio tracks from “Rainbow in the Dark,” to “Rock n’ Roll Children” are in the set list, as well as a few numbers representing Ronnie James Dio’s earlier bands in his career, Rainbow and Black Sabbath (including an epic rendition of “Heaven and Hell”).
The stage set up at the time is constructed to mimic the medieval ages, complete with a castle and draw-bridge. At one point Ronnie even battles a giant mechanical dragon (dubbed “Dean” for the tour) with a sword, which may come off slightly corny to some, but still ads to the overall charm of the DVD.
Aside from the concert in it’s entirety, there’s also plenty of extras here; everything from interviews, music videos, and even some (very) raw backstage footage that’s sure to please just about any Dio fan. Most metal fans will be glad they invested the time in watching this at least once, especially those who weren’t able to experience Dio firsthand before Ronnie’s unfortunate passing in 2010.
