Pulling heavy inspiration from bands such as The Early November, Finch, Home Grown and Hawthorne Heights, Raleigh alt-rock outfit Sparing are carving a path all their own on their debut EP, Old Dreams, out now through Sunday Drive Records.

Beginning as a solo project for vocalist Zach Godwin, Sparing—rounded out with Terry Bradshaw (guitar/vocals), Cam Joyner (guitars), Zak Burge (bass) and Joe Hill (drums)—quickly released their three-track demo Grave in 2019, eventually growing into the newly minted band we find today.
Old Dreams finds Sparing doubling down on what made their demo stick. Personal lyrics with ear-worm choruses, heavy riffing, all paying homage to diverse influences like Superheaven and Jawbreaker. Tracks utilize catchy pop-punk instrumentals, overlaid with Smashing Pumpkins inspired guitar harmonies. The music suggests a return to a golden world before things were black and white.
With Sparing truly forming in a year where no shows are happening, they hold true to their passion and drive for what comes next. With all members being a part of North Carolina hardcore act Thirteenth, alongside sharing the stage with national touring acts like Vein.fm, Higher Power, Judiciary, SECT, Magnitude, Chamber, Gideon, and Kaonashi, they aim to hit the ground running with the same attitude they’ve brought into their other musical projects.
