After focusing only on the San Diego market for the last two years, Scallywag! Fest has expanded its horizons this year to include several dates around the U.S. including this past Saturday at Auburn, Washington’s White River Amphitheatre.
The craft beer drinking kicked off at noon for the VIPs and things seemed to ramp slowly as the Mad Caddies licked off the music at 3:30 to a relatively sparse crowd. The Caddies were followed by Less Than Jake, The Interrupters and Reel Big Fish so the festival could have easily been called “Ska”-llywag.
With the sun fully set, Pennywise took the and kicked the fest into high gear with a 60 minute set that tore through the fan favorites before ending with their friends on stage for the singalong, “Bro Hymn.”
What started as a sunny warm day, ended with rain during Bad Religion’s headlining set. From the looks of things, the folks on the lawn either bailed early or found their way into the covered seating which had plenty of room to accommodate anyone looking to stay dry. Bad Religion’s set kicked off with the classics from “Recipe For Hate” to “Fuck Armageddon …” before treating the Washington fans to “Suffer” in its entirety in celebration of its 30th anniversary.
Not letting the meager turnout dampen the mood, all of the bands put on great performances and the crowd responded in kind with plenty of dancing and singing along.
