We’re pleased to bring you the premiere of Frances & The Foundation’s music video for their song “Hey Man” (watch it below). The track is taken from the band’s debut full-length Nothing Is Perfect, Everything Is Fine, which is scheduled to be released on June 7th.
Frances comments on the song:
“We just wanted to show how isolating it can feel for women sometimes. But also how ridiculous men look sometimes in their attempts. Hey guys guess what, we don’t owe you shit!
I was filling up my car one day right outside the city, and had a pair of men start yelling obscenities at me and screaming what they thought were compliments when in reality they were just disgusting slurs. I got so pissed that I went home and wrote that song that day, but I wanted to be tongue in cheek about it. It’s one of the more emotional songs I’ve written because it’s happened on more than one occasion and it frustrates me that we haven’t evolved past being inappropriate to one another.”
Samantha Frances wrote the first Frances & the Foundation songs with a friend in her living room, after bouncing between Colorado Springs and Seattle. Frances made her home in Nashville, where she forged her no-holds barred attitude and sold her soul to rock ‘n’ roll.
The band has grown their alternative aesthetic with a dirtier, hard-hitting sound while maintaining the catchiness of today’s rock-pop hits.
“I’m talking to myself in songs a lot of the time, usually sorting out how I feel about something going on in life, or how I feel about society.” Said Frances
Frances & The Foundation’s influences derive from the world around them, but ultimately comes from the mind and soul of Samantha. Frances’ relatable lyrics and versatile vocal styles has lead them to unique opportunities, including shows with punk veterans The Gaslight Anthem and Grammy Award winning soul-rockers The Alabama Shakes.
