I Prevail brought their True Power Tour to a sold-out show at the Egyptian Room in Indianapolis, IN last week and really brought the venue to its knees.

Starting off the evening were up-and-coming pop rock band Yours Truly, which seemed like an odd fit with most of the bands being on the hard rock/metalcore side, but they didn’t disappoint! Their energy was contagious and set up the 2,000-person strong crowd for Fit For A King.

Poised to release their up-and-coming album The Hell We Create, Fit for a King took the stage ready to give it their all. No strangers to a fun Indianapolis crowd (the band played two sold-out weekend shows at the local venue the Hoosier Dome last year), they knew how to get the crowd off their feet in seconds with the opening song “Reaper.” I’ve seen this band probably more times than I can count on both hands, but to see them command a sold-out room was mesmerizing. From sing-along songs like “When Everything Means Nothing” to heavy banger “God of Fire,” vocalist Ryan Kirby held the crowd in his hand and never let go for a single moment.

The next band to take the stage was the band half the crowd was waiting for. The comeback so many people had been waiting upwards of five years for. The screams and chanting were louder than any band that played that evening. And with that, Pierce the Veil took the stage and performed their first Indianapolis set since their 2017 tour with Sum 41.

Opening with “May These Noises/Hell Above,” the crowd faithfully yelled every word with such force that it drowned out the band almost entirely. Each song still drips with the same emotions it did when the albums were first released. Most of the setlist contained songs off their monster album Collide with the Sky, but they did however play their incredible first new single in years “Pass the Nirvana.”

Even crew members from I Prevail’s team were coming out to the barricade to enjoy the set. The most notable moment of their set was when vocalist Vic Fuentes screamed “I’m having a baby” and dedicated “Hold on Till May” to his wife and their child. Of course, they closed out their set with “King for a Day,” and it never felt so good to scream “dare me to jump off of this Jersey bridge” with 2,000 other people.

The energy from Pierce the Veil’s set lingered on and stayed with the crowd as the evening’s headliners I Prevail took the stage. Fresh off the release of their latest monster of an album True Power, the massive metalcore band tore through their first few songs with little breath in between. I Prevail has come such a long way in a short amount of time, and they don’t seem to be slowing down any time soon.

Brian Burkheiser and Eric Vanlerbleghe are at the top of their game as frontmen, with their back-and-forth flow coming what seems to be so effortless, but no doubt has taken years of refinement. The lead single “Body Bag” came early in the show, and much like the rest of their music, packed an absolute punch. But sadly, for those crossover metalcore Swifties, “Blank Space” did not make an appearance. Thankfully though, the band reached back to the catalog and played their smash hit “Scars” off 2016’s Lifelines. Between their latest album release, and a most if not completely sold-out headlining U.S. tour, I Prevail are proving to be the frontmen of modern metalcore.

This tour lineup really brings the heat. It’s probably one of the best tours that’s come around since live music has come back. Every artist has new music out, so even if you can’t make the tour, definitely give the new stuff a listen. They’re only getting bigger from here.
