Pixies kicked off the first leg of their 2023 North American Tour at the Fox Theater in Oakland, CA with Slow Pulp along for the ride.
Sure, a new album (Pixies’ Doggerel in this particular case) is always a great reason for a band to hit the road, but when it comes to the Pixies, the band always deliver a crushing set. So it was no surprise that the Fox was absolutely packed to the rafters by the time the band took the stage and proceeded to blast right into “Gouge Away,” which hit the room like a 2×4 to the face, setting the tone for what would prove to be an epic two hours of twist and turns that no doubt left heads spinning.
Of course, the classics were well represented on the evening’s setlist with “Where Is My Mind?” and “Here Comes Your Man” sprinkled in and room for plenty of Doggerel material in the career-spanning set. Short on talk, long on rock, the band pretty much let the music do the talking and showed why they’re still at the top of their game after over three decades as a band. Don’t snooze on this one folks; you’ll thank us later.
