Show Review: The Dollyrots at Respectable Street in West Palm Beach, FL

Few bands can keep the pop-punk flame burning bright for over two decades, but The Dollyrots prove they’re still going strong. They’re touring in support of their 2023 full-length release, Night Owls, and their new single, “Get On This Ride,” from Wicked Cool Records. The single’s B side is a cover of “You Don’t Own Me,” which they performed by fan request at the show.

I was able to catch their West Palm Beach show, where The Dollyrots lit up Respectable Street with a set that blended fan favorites and new songs mixed with casual banter. Core duo Kelly Ogden (bass, lead vocals) and Luis Cabezas (guitar, vocals), joined by drummer Simon Hancock, tore through songs with infectious energy. Their cover of Melanie’s “Brand New Key” was a crowd-pleaser, while their kids, River and Daisy, shared the spotlight with yoyo tricks and percussion during the final songs. The night ended in pure pop-punk joy as the audience shouted every word to “Because I’m Awesome.”

After more than 20 years, The Dollyrots prove that pop-punk isn’t just alive—it’s thriving.”
