If there was a record that I think has molded hardcore and punk for a newer generation of fans, it’s definitely Turnstile’s Glow On. After releasing the record back in August of 2021, the band’s success just snowballed into greater heights.

From playing countless major festivals, to a very visually appealing NPR Tiny Desk performance, to a top-30 debut on the Billboard 200, to their first late night TV debut with Seth Meyers, to now adding another TV performance on Jimmy Kimmel Live, there’s absolutely no stopping this train. And, in my honest opinion, it’s just gonna keep getting better for Baltimore’s very own Turnstile.

Playing the same venue three nights before, you would think that a second show would be a bust, but joke’s on you; both shows were sold out even before the day of the show arrived. If the first night showed me what a sold out novo feels like, I was already expecting nothing less than a banger of a show for the second day.

The night started off with Atlanta pop-rap duo Coco and Clair Clair. I can best describe their music as if Barbie discovered tumblr, and she’s big mad at the world. It has a little bubble gum pop, some rap, and even some funny ass lyrics, but if you really sit and listen to it, that’s some real deep stuff right there.  I don’t know about you, but I honestly thought they were pretty sick and very entertaining. I guess you really got lots to say when you’re from the same neighborhood.

Next on deck were a band that needs no introduction to this world, Toledo, Ohio’s Citizen. Fresh from finishing their own headliner at the end part of 2021, Citizen were enlisted by Turnstile to play the California dates of this tour. Also with a new record in hand, the band pumped out a lot of new jams for the Los Angeles crowd not while mixing it with some of the classics. Their record Life in Your Glass World was one of my favorites of last year and for a very good reason. Ciz really out here to take you to vibe town.

After a quick break (which I feel this crowd deserves, especially with what was coming next) Turnstile took center stage to, yet again, a sold-out venue. Both the floor and balcony were packed with people. Imagine a crowd of people just singing, climbing on each other, circle pitting, moshing, jumping, dancing, all that crazy stuff, for an hour. Yeah, that’s exactly what happened. Turnstile played an hour’s worth of songs from all their records, and not an ounce of energy was wasted.  I’ve seen this band play in a 150-capacity room  and a 1000-capacity venue, and they always put on such an insane show.

I should mention, big ups to their light director and front of house also; those two really made that shit pop!

Turnstile will be continuing their tour again in April, so I highly, highly, HIGHLY suggest you hit up one of these shows. YOU REALLY GOTTA SEE IT LIVE TO GET IT!
