The party kicks off at noon with a free car show featuring candy-colored muscle cars, eye-popping custom hotrods and and nostalgia inducing classic cars, all courtesy of California Auto Museum. The event is a fundraiser for the Sacramento SPCA Behavior Dept.who will be on hand with demos, animals and information about this new department. Annually, over 40% of dogs are surrendered to shelters because of behavioral problems. The focus of this new department is to teach pet owners how to better deal with behavior problems to avoid surrendering or euthanasia. The first band goes on at 1 pm. A new Ms. Gearhead will also be crowned at the event. The selected woman will be chosen based on her strength, creativity, commitment to community service and authenticity. Billed as the antithesis of a Pin-Up Contest, The Ms. Gearhead contest isn’t about what the woman looks like, but what her character is like. For the next year, she will represent Gearhead at various car shows and rock shows around the state. She will also be the subject of a website feature and photo shoot. There will be a 50/50 raffle as well as raffle prizes to raise money for the SPCA. Admission to the car show is free and open to the public. Founded in 1993 as the world’s first punk rock hot rod magazine, the brand expanded to a record label in 2000, discovering bands The Hives, The Hellacopters, The New Bomb Turks and The Riverboat Gamblers among others. The brand continued to expand, adding a clothing line to their already gritty offering of unique products and today, with over ninety releases on the Elk Grove based company’s roster, continue to make noise with their moving pop-up store, appearing at local dragstrips, cars shows, craft beer venues and rock shows.
