Sweden’s alternative metalcore quintet Imminence bring an intense Scandinavian fusion and are leveling up for 2024. Coming to the United States in full force, Imminence have unleashed their fifth studio album The Black on April 12 for all the metal masses. Frontman and violinist Eddie Berg, along with guitarists Harold Barrett and Alex Arnoldsson, drummer Peter Hanstrom, and bass player Christian Hoijer, have prepared this album strategically. The Black is a testament continuing their pioneer plunge since 2010 and developing an even more unique soundscape with intensity and towering rage.
No other metal core band are quite like Imminence. With their vision and insight, their music is gut-wrenching but also with absolute freedom, and a fusion of violins and darkness combining a multifaceted album for all metal music lovers out there. “Come Hell or High Water” bleeds out with melodies and determined harmony, as Eddie Berg gives a story, on not giving up and not taking any prisoners. This song is definitely one to never forget. “Desolation” delves into blast beats and gushing vocals right at the start. “Heaven Shall Burn “sends signals to the heavens with absolute high and hard all the way, piercing through your heart with every ounce of energy.
“Beyond the Pale” is an extraordinary song slicing through this album, as Imminence’s signature brands their style and dark power surging lyrical content, leaving you breathless every time. “Death By a Thousand Cuts” and “Come What May “are haunting and hypnotic. “Cul-de-Sac” begins instrumental as you hear so many different noises. It almost sounds like a scary movie soundtrack leaving you on the edge of your seat. “The Black” has such melodic beauty with those smooth vocals going into a symphony of violins, drums, guitars and base swirling an intense sound throwing the listener into an abyss. Those blast beats are earth shattering and don’t ever fail to make you want to grab your chest and bang your head.
All 12 songs on this album are all distinctive and have a remarkable extreme rage and sadness, with strength all in one. If you love blast beats and melodic metal with symphonic technical theatrical roller coaster rides in the dark, well this will blow your mind. Check out their tour dates coming to a city near you. You won’t regret it. Check out the album, The Black, and grab some merch while you’re at it.
