Five Questions and 10 Songs with the Punk Rock Museum Tour Guides: Fred Armisen

Fred Armisen

Meet your Punk Rock Museum tour guides! We’ll be featuring five questions—the same five questions—with each of the ongoing punk rock guides scheduled to show people around the museum in the coming months.

Each one is also putting together their own Punk Rock Museum x New Noise Playlist. Today, we introduce you to Fred Armisen, former Saturday Night Live cast member, Portlandia co-creator alongside punk legend Carrie Brownstein, drummer and bandleader for The 8G Band on Late Night with Seth Meyers, and all-around professional punk fan. He’s only doing tours on July 23, and they’re already sold out, but if you already have your tickets, meet your guide!

When did you get into punk and why? (Was it an older sibling, a certain band, etc.? describe your initiation into the world of punk).
When I saw The B52’s on Saturday Night Live. I was 13. I was into it right away.
What was your first punk show?
Devo at Radio City Music Hall 1981.
What part of the museum are you most excited about getting into deep detail in as a tour guide?
Every bit of it! I’m also interested in finding out more about international punk.
What is your favorite era or regional scene?
Minneapolis, early to mid 1980s.
What is your personal most prized punk possession?
A seven-inch recorded and cut for my birthday at Mutato by Mark Mothersbaugh. 2016.
