Indie Musician CUCO On Community, Writing & Coming of Age

CUCO

Fresh off of a headlining festival in California, indie artist CUCO is still a start to continue watching. Writing under the moniker of CUCO is Omar Banos, the songwriter is adept to making feelings known and expressing them with a pure heart. Earlier in the year the artist released Songs4U, a touching album full of deep passion. After new single “Lo Que Siento,” CUCO has been steadily rising in the press and taking over California’s market.

New Noise Magazine had a chance to talk with CUCO, the rising star about the humble beginnings that have made more than a mark.

With community being such an integral part to every music scene, how has the community around you allowed you to surface into the creative pitfall of music?

Growing up in the South Bay there’s a huge diversity in culture and music and watching everything go down left and right inspired me to want to create my own work.

How does sharing your experiences on stage and in song help identify more with the people surrounding you?

The content I put out is just super honest and personal to me and my experiences so I feel like people appreciate that they can relate to something like that.

What was the mindset behind recording Songs4U?

Honestly I was just trying to find a new way to make new sounds and improve my production while at the same time being as emotionally raw as I could be putting myself in a certain time period where I was going through a couple things.

At such a young age, how has it been to receive the praise you have already?

It’s insane and a blessing, I’m so grateful for everyone around me.

What is up and coming for the project?

A lot a lot of diversity in sound, no song really has to do with another song in my album.

To you, what is your favorite moment or song you have written?

Probably cupid’s quiver or Lava Lamp because those two songs made me realize how boundaries don’t exist in genre.
