A debut album. A stamp to the world showing you have pushed through all adversity, whether big or small, and put yourself out there for all to see and take in. False Pockets, hailing from Rochester, New York have bush-whacked their way through the pandemic and came out on the other side with their debut album “Selfish Prophecies,” dropping February 18th.
How does it really feel? It feels unreal,” shares guitarist / vocalist Erik Happ. “I’m not really going to know how it feels until it actually comes out because it’s still a secret SoundCloud that I listen to.
It’s gonna feel good to just get them out to the public and get it off our chest a little bit,” says drummer Ben Chesnes.
The band, Happ, Chesnes and bassist Zack Parker, all obtained engineering degrees from Finger Lakes Community College, which allowed them to take a little more creative control over everything. This album was recorded collectively in April of 2021 but had been in process for almost two years now, with the final mastering coming from Greg Thompson (Kowloon Walled City, David Byrne). The time spent during the pandemic opened up a lot of perspective and enabled them to push their own boundaries.
About a month ago, I was digging through how the lyrics were displayed,” explains Happ. “It [seemed] really self reflecting and [with an emphasis on] fulfilling prophecies and some of the lyrics [covering] what I’ve been going through over the past couple years.
I think a lot of people have just [been] self reflecting over the last couple years,” adds Chesnes. “I think it’s only natural that you wrote the songs and that’s what ended up coming out of it. I mean, a lot of us were just out there also with ourselves for a while.
You can follow the band on social media and stream “Selfish Prophecies” February 18th. The band has a couple shows in New York City coming up as well.
