Writing music and putting it all together in a nice little box with a bow on top is a challenge in and of itself, but to throw the ideas of philosophy and existentialism into the mix and you’ve got something on a whole other level. Twin brothers, Zak and Kel Pinchin, better known as Modern Error, have somehow been able to put the concept together and excel at it with their newest album, “Victim of a Modern Age.”
“My intention was more like a self reflective, self reflection thing,” admits Zak. “[A] reflection on the world, from our perspective, away from it and my idea was this person is trying to understand the world and is facing it from a different place. It’s almost [like gaining] some knowledge to return to change the world as we know it.”
A lot of fans were already grasping the concept behind the record the first weekend it came out with Zak even getting messages from friends, family and fans alike. While putting together the conceptual album, the twins decided they wanted to do an A and B side kind of record, focusing on mirroring halves and experimental sounds. This record may say Modern Error, but it is a new and different sound.
“With this [record], you needed to play with it,” says Zak. “As it was happening, I needed a lot more time and more understanding of when people are creating the sound. I think we found the realization that the best people for it [were] ourselves; trying to articulate this to someone else is tough. Especially when me and Kel are twins and to try and articulate it to someone else to get the same intent is, it’s not pointless, but it’s just so much easier to work with this slight innate connection.”
