There’s always something about Canadian underground music that feels alive. Maybe it’s being half-Canadian and being inundated by friends and family with a host of the greats, but it’s always nice to discover a new favorite from north of the border that just hits the spot. What we have here is some throwback hardcore punk goodness, but Comeback Kid this ain’t. Instead, Imploders are raw and rowdy as hell. If ever a band felt like a basement bar discovery, this is it. These sixteen songs smack you upside the face while massaging your shoulders with just the right amount of hooks. I’m struck by how instantly memorable this LP is, and considering how quickly the band figured out their thing, that’s no surprise, as they share:
“The hardcore scene has always been great and constantly evolving here in Toronto, but we were just finding that presently there was a lack of hardcore bands that really put an emphasis on the punk. We’re all from the school of that Career Suicide and Brutal Knights era of Toronto punk and wanted to do something that was a happy medium between that and the no bullshit first wave of hardcore punk everyone knows and loves. Collectively, the band was pretty easy to get together because we’ve all been friends for a long time, so when it came down to figure out the direction, we wanted to take the band it probably took all of 5 minutes. We wrote our first song on an acid trip together weeks before we ever actually had our first rehearsal.”
The album is available from Neon Taste Records’ Bandcamp. Follow them on Instagram for future updates.
