The Veer Union recently released their new LP, Manifestations, along with their new video, “From The Fire In You,” the lead single from the LP. Give it a peek here at New Noise.
The Vancouver, BC, Canada-based band are known for their dynamic, live shows, regularly playing more than 100 a year in North America in pre-pandemic times, opening for RED, Puddle Of Mudd, The Red Jumpsuit Apparatus, Saliva and Alesana, and many others.
The new album was, in part, inspired by The Veer Union’s Crispin Earl’s experience, losing his record deal in 2012 and wondering if it was the end of his music career. After a few darks days of self-exploration, he found a small spark inside himself that brought him back to life—hearkening back to the lead single, “From The Fire In You.”
In between the band’s busy schedule, we got the chance to chat with them a bit more about the new single and video, the newly released album, and the road ahead.
Hi there! To start, 2022 has clearly been a busy year for the band. How is the year treating you so far?
This year has been amazing so far; we were a little nervous about putting out the heaviest musical offering since the bands inception with our single “Standing My Ground,” but it was incredibly well received, and we started touring again for the first time in three years. We couldn’t be happier.
You recently released the music video and track,“From The Fire In You.” Can you tell me a little more about the background of creating the track and how it relates back to the album as a whole?
“From The Fire In You” in a nutshell is about never giving up, it’s amazing how a human can thrive when forced to survive. You just have to believe that you can “MANIFEST” a better future and it will happen!
Absolutely. I think that’s a good message we can all hold onto right now. What was the process of making the video like? Did you have any particular inspirations in creating the visual elements of this track?
It was actually a nightmare, LOL! We had a full plan and set up that we shot for two days straight, and it wasn’t working, so we started from scratch again. I came up with the video projection with TV’s behind us which depicted exactly the feeling we were hoping for in the first place, and we are very happy with how it turned out.
Sometimes those quick recalibration moments really make the best end product, right? You also released Manifestations last month. Was there anything specific you all were looking to explore thematically, or any influences you found, as you created the album?
Through COVID, it seems many people had a new kind of internal struggle than in previous years including ourselves. We wanted to thematically write an album that made people feel empowered as that was the feeling we had when writing it. The songs are really connecting with people.
I’m sure that’s a great feeling. People definitely need more connection right now. So, now that the album has been out in the world for a little over a month, how does it feel? What has the reception been like?
This album has been one of the most well-received albums of our career, we are ecstatic because it is exactly in line with the direction the band musically wants to create more of in the future.
Hell yeah! That’s awesome to hear. Y’all are also on a spring tour. What’s it like to be back on the road? How have live audiences received the new tracks?
The tour has been great so far, and the tracks from Manifestations have been some of the best received songs in our live set, ever.
That’s great. I’m sure you’re definitely focused on relishing in this present moment, but does The Veer Union have any future plans, projects, anything on the road ahead you’d like to share?
We have a special project that we have been working on. We are going to start releasing tracks June 10, 2022. This will be for a 10 Year Anniversary Edition of our album, Divide The Blackened Sky.
All good stuff. Is there anything else you’d like to add before we wrap up?
I am truly grateful to still be making music and still have people appreciating the music, that is all I have ever wanted. I have Manifested this my whole life which has put me right where I wanna be.
