Interview: Through The Oculus On Their Self-titled Debut Album

Through The Oculus

L.A.’s Through The Oculus Through The Oculus are a very new band, but the kind of band that has all it takes to make a long-lasting impact upon the first impression itself.

Channeling a wide variety of musical styles and influences within the hard rock and heavy metal spectrum and presenting a unique sound, the band’s self-titled debut album is tremendously dynamic, and the live show is just as powerful.

New Noise put some question to the group to get a sense of where they came from and where they want to go. Read on below.

How did the band first get together; what’s your origin story?

We formed in the summer of 2019, long-time friends Randy and Lauren recruited Sarah and Eric to be a part of a metal project, after the first jam session it was clear the bond of a lifelong band was in the making. It wasn’t long before we had an entire setlist of songs written and rehearsed.

What was the writing and recording process like for this record?

The writing process was easy going for this record because we had no pressure & no time frame to release. Same with recording, we just took it one song at a time, and before we knew it our album was completed in just a few months. We work with some amazing people who know our quirks and what we want/need so this process is always enjoyable.

What are some of the lyrical themes on the album?

For a few songs, the lyrical themes consist of a personal story of pain and emotional damage from real experiences that people could possibly relate to. The bulk, however, are fictional stories of quests, revenge, sacrifice, and destruction, but still with a tinge of relatability.

What do you all have coming up in terms of live streams, shows, etc?

We have quite a few shows coming up in May, including a local festival. It will be a busy month for us. We may do another live stream in the near future, until then our fans will have new music to enjoy on May 7!

What’s next for the band after this album release?

Well, we are currently working on writing new music. So, we are hopeful to have yet another album completed by early 2022. We will continue to perform as much as we can and potential tour to close out the year.

Final thoughts or anything else you’d like to add?

We will continue to be the hard-working band we have always been. We can’t wait to see what the future holds, cheers!
