Product Spotlight: Cultus Clothing Brand

Interview with Chris Hansen and Madison Parry | By Alex Del Campo

Another successful year in music has been cemented under No Sleep Records’ belt with the diligent Chris Hansen at its helm. With hard work and success stems projects and ideas, for Chris it was founding Cultus Clothing Brand alongside his partner and sweetheart, Madison Parry. Both have taken time from their busy work life to share their thoughts and hopes for this brand.

You’ve had other clothing lines in the past, like Sleepless Threads, that didn’t see much time in operation. What were some of the factors that made you ultimately decide to try your hand at another clothing line again?

Chris Hansen: I have always wanted to start a clothing line, separate from No Sleep Records. My past efforts at starting a brand ultimately suffered due to my main focus being on the label. My time was limited, which is a positive thing, because No Sleep has grown so much from where it started. What separates Cultus from past attempts is that it is co-owned and operated by myself and Madison Parry (my babe of a girlfriend). With our combined dedication and passion for what we are doing, we are confident that Cultus will be a success. We share a lot of the same interests and tastes, so we figured this is something fun we can do together, build together, and make our own. We build off each other’s ideas, only making them better, and we work really well together. Our differences in opinion create a good balance for the company.

No Sleep Merch featured a few designs with your pug Dahmer, as well as other pop-culture themes such as your Halloween shirts for this year. Will we see these types of themes in Cultus, or are you taking this in a sort of new direction away from No Sleep?

CH: There will be some similarities in reference to pop culture themes, our pugs (pug life), and our love for coffee, but from a design aspect, it will be completely different and stand out in its own way, as Cultus.

Is there someone specifically handling the design aspect of Cultus?

CH: Both of us will be handling the design aspects of Cultus equally. Most, if not all, of the designs are a collaboration of ideas that we come up with while we are snuggled up on the couch with a hot cup of coffee, a teen drama on the television, and pugs snoring in the background.

Are you planning on collaborating with other artists on future designs?

MP: In addition to our own designs, Cultus will feature various talented artists. Our initial launch on December 1st featured the amazingly talented Tyler Guidry. We will announce our upcoming featured artists before the drop of a new item, through social media.

How do you feel about the popularity and attention that No Sleep/Cultus is currently receiving?

MP: We are pretty confident with the amount of people we have reached thus far. It continues to grow daily, and it’s exciting to see people so amped for our launch. It’s humbling, and we are extremely grateful for the support we are receiving and hope to continue to receive.

What are some of the things that we can expect from your brand in the upcoming year?

MP: There will be a lot more to come from Cultus in the future. We have a ton of ideas for designs, and styles. We are starting small, but have big plans for the future.

What makes your brand different from those that are currently in operation within the scene today? What makes Cultus stand out from the others?

CH: Cultus holds high values, and integrity is important to us. We want to create a community of like-minded individuals who we relate to, and who relate to us.As a brand we hope to build not only a business, but also a community who share our interests. We are very dedicated to making Cultus successful, and understand the amount of hard work we have ahead of us, but at the same time we are enjoying every second of it. We feel it’s important to be passionate about everything you do in life, and this is no different.

What is the idea behind Cultus?

MP: It has been a dream of ours to start a business together for some time. When we decided to do a clothing line (something we have both always wanted to do) we dove in, and literally stared working on it the next day. We wanted Cultus to reflect the things we are passionate about and are interested in. We can’t wait to share what we have in store for our line!

Cultus launched on the 1st of December. In terms of first day releases, which items did you offer?

MP: The first launch features three designs: BFL Classic, Jaw Breaker (by Tyler Guidry), and our Classic logo tee. We will carry men’s and women’s t-shirts, a zip up, and a crew neck, as well as beanies. All items are of high quality, as that was important to us.

Will Cultus be in direct association with No Sleep Records, or is this something completely separate from your label?

CH: Cultus is its own operation, and will remain separate from No Sleep Records. That’s not to say there will not be any collaboration between the two companies in the future.
