Following on from their 2020 success, indie pop-rockers Bed Scene are back with a new banging track. Inspired by the concrete jungle of Miami, the bright, breezy instrumental of “It Feels Better” is balanced by lyrics about the anxieties of adulthood and life in the big city. The band juxtaposes their endless summer sound with a story about the struggle for success.

Following a milestone festival appearance at III Points 2021 in their hometown of Miami, Bed Scene have dropped the video for their new single, “It Feels Better,” and it serves as the band’s first release since their 2020 offering, “American Dream.” Musically, the track is anchored by a sunny fun guitar melody and high-gloss production reminiscent of the Beach Boys, Girls, and other classic surf rock bands.
Founded by guitarist and lead vocalist Nick Aponte as a solo songwriting project in 2017, Bed Scene released their self-titled, debut EP in 2018, drawing inspiration from performing in Boston and Miami and Aponte’s work as a jingle writer. Aponte spent the next year refining his songwriting style and exploring his Hispanic-American heritage, and in 2019 Bed Scene released the Dulcinea EP, inspired by 1980s Spanish ballads and lo-fi pop.
Following Dulcinea, the band expanded its lineup with the addition of Michelle Reinkopf (bass, backing vocals), Andrew Burt (keyboards), and Danny Portal (drums). This new, fully-formed Bed Scene went on to solidify their sound through a string of singles released from late 2019 into 2020.

What are you most excited about with this new release?
With every song we release, we just hope that people listen and take something from it.
What was the writing and recording process like for the song?
Lyrically, the song references the challenges of “becoming an adult” while focusing on doing what you love. I believe it to be something most people can relate to. Regarding the recording process, Bed Scene’s music has typically followed more of a “bedroom” production style, however, in contrast to our other releases, “It Feels Better” was recorded traditionally in a studio.
What are some of the major lyrical themes?
Coming of age, naivety, resilience, doing what you love.
What else would you like to promote that’s coming up?
We’re currently planning a tour as well as releasing more music at the start of the new year.
Is there anything else you’d like to add?
We hope you enjoy our new single and music video for “It Feels Better.” Thanks for listening!
