Jack White has released a surprise new video for “City Lights.” The song is one of the many acoustic renditions off the singer’s newest release, Jack White Acoustic Recordings 1998-2016. The record is considered an essential compilation for anything Jack White, including acoustic tracks of songs from The White Stripes, The Raconteurs and the singer’s own music. “City Lights” is a previously unreleased track and received music video treatment thanks to Michel Gondry. This is the fifth time Gondry has collaborated with anything White Stripes, and Gondry did the video by on his own without anyone knowing. Acoustic Recordings 1998-2016 is out via Third Man Records and Columbia Records.
The music video is a simple show from a bathroom with faces, shapes and items being drawn into the window, allowing the steam to let them take form. It’s oddly fitting, with “City Lights” posing as an introspective track. The song was originally meant to be on Get Behind Me Satan but was left until White finished the track for the acoustic release.

Jack White was also featured The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon this past Friday, September 9th. After talking with the show host, Jack White continued on to perform “Love Is The Truth” and “You’ve Got Her In Your Pocket” on the show. Both of the song’s performances are the stripped down, beautiful renditions found on Acoustic Recordings. Those performances can be viewed here.
