In 1976, a band of working-class men from Salford, England formed the band Joy Divison, a group that was initially heavily influenced by the punk movement taking the clubs and venues by the throat. However, in 1979, Joy Division would release one of the most prolific albums of all time, Unknown Pleasures. This record, produced by Martin Hannett and released through the indie label, Factory Records, would become one of the most influential records of all time and would immortalize Joy Division as one of the godfathers of post-punk.
To celebrate the momentous occasion of this album turning 40, a series of films were commissioned by Warren Jackson, the visual director for the band. This will be a 10-part series, a film for each track to breathe new life into the songs and give them a modern retelling. The directorial list features artists from across the globe, proving Unknown Pleasures both transcendental and beyond geographical limits.
The films will create a sense of insight for fans to allow them to understand the creative process of recording the album. Jackson is working with veteran and rookie directors creating a visual feast for fans.
