Video Premiere: Kaleido – “Pretending”

Kaleido

“What’s most important to me is being authentic in my songwriting. When you hear me singing on a track, whatever it is I’m talking about, whether it’s good times or bad, I want you to know I’ve lived it,” says Christina Chriss of Kaleido when asked about the importance of tackling issue like mental health in her lyrics. “If I’ve written a song about it, it’s important me. I write about things I’m going through or have in the past, and I hope my songs can help others that relate to the lyrics and need to know that they aren’t alone in their feelings.”

Chriss continues: “Creating the song itself is almost like self-therapy to me. I know there are a lot of people in the world struggling with mental health and many are suffering in silence. The song ‘Pretending’ is me standing up and saying ‘This isn’t okay.’ Sometimes I’m not okay, and I’m sick of hiding it when I feel that way – so I’m speaking out. And I feel comfortable with saying that I am speaking out not only for myself, but I’m lending my voice to others too, who may be too scared to speak out. We need to be there for one another, and our mental health deserves attention.

Kaleido will be performing at Warped Tour in Atlantic City this year (more info). The band has played several dates of the tour since 2013 and Chriss sees at as “Woodstock for scene bands! I’m honored to be on the bill amongst our idols.” Chriss continues by saying Warped Tour is “…where I’ve made some of my favorite memories…. Kevin Lyman and the whole crew are the truth!”

Kaleido don’t plan on slowing down any time soon, with winning “Outstanding Alt/Indie/Punk Artist” from last month’s Detroit Music Awards, as well as releasing their new EP NO RLY… IM FINE on July 19th. “We’re throwing a big ol’ hometown bash to celebrate it! You can expect more touring, more content, more music…,” says Chriss. “The Kaleido train keeps on rollin’ and it’s picking up speed!”

You can RSVP to their EP release show here, being held at Diesel Concerts Detroit on July 19th.
