We’re pleased to bring you the premiere of You Know The Drill’s music video for their song “Homesick” (watch it below). The track is taken from the band’s forthcoming sophomore EP Selfhood, which is scheduled to be released on June 22nd through Scylla Records. You can pre-order the EP here: iTunes | Physical
As happy and fun as this song sounds, it actually has some of the most personal and real lyrics on the whole EP. ‘Homesick’ is a song about the downsides to touring and wondering if you’re wasting your time on a dream that you’re never going to catch. Some of the downsides include staying up late travelling every night, being trapped in a small vehicle for long periods of time and being away from your loved ones at home.
We wanted the video to match the positive vibes of the song, rather than the dispiriting tone of the lyrics, so we brought our friend Mikey (Schmannly Visuals) out with us to as many shows as possible to capture the best parts of touring. The video has clips from our set at Slam Dunk Festival in 2017, footage from the studio recording Selfhood and even a Brady Bunch-esque sequence where we try some Carolina Reaper Chillis (They sucked, A LOT). If you look closely you can spot cameos from Safeguard, Junior, Luke Rainsford and Joey from In Her Own Words.
It’s quite possibly our favourite video that we’ve ever put out as it matches the song in terms of honesty. We feel it showcases who we are as people and what we’re all about, which really ties in with the whole concept of ‘Selfhood.’
