Kylesa on Hiatus | Working on New Projects

Although fans are bummed that beloved spacey, psychey doom gods and goddess Kylesa have taken an indefinite hiatus, members are working on various other projects and staying active, to their many fans.

Back in April of 2016, Kylesa announced they were going on permanent hiatus.

“To our fans and friends… After 15 years of nonstop touring and writing, we decided that it is time for a break,” they told their fans via Facebook. “A lot of you have been asking when we are coming to your part of the world and that means a lot to us. However, we feel it should be known that as of now we have no plans to play any shows or work on any new material. We have collectively decided to take a hiatus with no set date to reconvene. We want to give a huge thanks to all our fans, friends, and family for the support over the years. It has been a killer journey and a real pleasure meeting so many amazing people along the way.”

At the time, they had no other irons in the fire, but that has now changed. Laura Pleasants, formerly on guitar and vocals, has formed a group called The Discussion, and Phillip Cope, the other guitarist and vocalist in the band, has gone on to announce a new project called Oakskin. Cope’s project follows somewhat in the footsteps of Kylesa, with a slow, spacey sound, but puts their own spin on things.

While it’s unclear if Kylesa will ever reform, and some fans are definitely bummed, it will be interesting to see the directions these new projects take, and the new music that will be made as a result of the band’s hiatus.
