Against Me! frontwoman Laura Jane Grace has joined together with Gender Is Over! (If You Want It), a not-for-profit project that donates proceeds from clothing sales and fundraising efforts to “organizations that work in support of trans and gender nonconforming people with special consideration for: youth empowerment, homelessness, mental health, incarceration, and structural racism.”
Gender Is Over! are running a fundraiser from Nov. 4 until Nov. 18 to benefit one such organization: LGBT Books to Prisoners, who “send books and other educational materials, free of charge, to LGBTQ-identified prisoners across the United States.” Proceeds from the fundraiser will be donated on Transgender Day of Remembrance (Nov. 20).
Grace is supporting the cause by offering five signed copies of her upcoming memoir, TRANNY: Confessions of Punk Rock’s Most Infamous Anarchist Sellout, which will be raffled off to contributors. Though Gender Is Over! recommend a donation of $15, they encourage everyone to give as much or as little as they are able. No one will be turned away due to lack of funds, and all participants are eligible to win a copy of the book. Alternatively, folks can opt to purchase a copy from Hatchette Book Group and have it mailed directly to LGBT Books to Prisoners (instructions and address can be found here).
