Philadelphia’s Left & Right have premiered a new single, entitled “Mouse Drum.” The song is an introspective daze, finding a slower pace to get across a message. It’s a bluesy progression set within an indie rock vibe, chugging along until the song’s final moments where the band dynamically shift the song into a distorted end, remaining clean in the first two-thirds of the song.
“Mouse Drum” is the opening track off Left & Right’s upcoming record, The Yips, out September 16th on WarHen records. In regards to the song, the band had this to say, “Kind of an outlier on the record, we set out to write a song with a playful tone that we could mess around with live. It almost didn’t make it on the record, but it ended up setting up a lot of what we deal with on the album by popping into little vignettes of failed or misguided ambition stories, and ending in a realization that we’re all just spinning towards an unforeseen end. Kind of a way of saying “it’s hard to make sense of it all, but we’re having some fun here,” as a preface to the rest of the record.”
