Maryland’s indie punk group Lilac Daze have premiered their latest single, “Future Unknown.” The song hails from their upcoming debut full length, also titled Lilac Daze. The LP is out October 14th via Black Numbers. The song is infectiously catchy, with the guitars dancing on a bouncy melody that is syncopated to perfection by the drums. The song’s rather gnashing beginning is contrasted perfectly through the spacious vocal presence of Patti Kotrady, also lending hand to the bass guitar. Soon, the voice finds a perfect stride on the second verse and rides a delicate melody to the end of the track. Lilac Daze present this song in under two minutes, letting it’s punchy nature do all of the speaking for them.
Lilac Daze is…
Evan Braswell – Guitar/Vox
Patti Kotrady – Bass/Vox
Matt Henry – Drums/Vox
Formed in December 2012, Lilac Daze is a three-piece band from Frederick, Maryland. By blending their love for 1970s New York rock, 1990s indie-rock, and flavors of modern pop, the band develops an unapologetic, punk meets lo-fi indie sound with heavy influences of Lemuria, Superchunk, Pavement, and more. Evan Braswell (guitar/vocals), Patti Kotrady (bass/vocals), and Matt Henry (drums/vocals) take a collective approach to music-making, utilizing their bond as best friends to ensure the contribution of each members’ individual tastes and interests.
The band first starting writing music in Evan’s basement and swiftly self-released their first EP, On Forgiving Myself, in the winter of 2013. Over the past few years, the band has completed various tours around the US, sharing the stage with acts such as Diarrhea Planet, Screaming Females, and Eskimeaux. In 2014, the band released their crushing Sedated EP on Black Numbers, which received high praise from Stereogum, The A.V. Club, and Brooklyn Vegan.
