New Noise Magazine is pleased to be bringing forth the hazy lyric video for “Gold” by Night Of Joy. Swirling in colors and swimming in sonic textures, the song and video are a tripped out experience that clash together the visual and auditory realms. The track utilizes a lot of guitars that sound as if their swimming through a lake, effectively dynamic in their grace. The chorus has a quick splash of a syncopated assault from all instruments before expanding through the wade with the delicate guitars. “Gold” is available right now via Chain Letter Collective. Take a view and listen below!

“‘Gold’ is NOJ’s first single in a series with Chain Letter Collective. It’s more poetry than prose– a lyrical and musical meditation on the dark night of the soul, and the surreal and absurd nature of existence under global capitalism. The lyric video is not only a throw-back to the early days of MTV, but also underscores the trippy vibe of the song itself.”

Night Of Joy began with a drunken conversation between members Ryan and Jay during a chance encounter in Portland.  They vowed that if they were ever living in the same place they would start a band that celebrated their mutual love for Pac NW indie rock, such as Pretty Girls Make Graves, Murder City Devils and Modest Mouse.  Over the next couple of years Ryan began stockpiling demos of angular guitar rock songs that he was unable to use for other projects.  Eventually, Jay and Ryan found themselves both back in Minneapolis and eager to start a band.  Filling out the line-up with close friends and like-minded musicians the band entered the studio with Knol Tate (KillSadie, Askeleton) and recorded their debut EP Better Life.  A successful and extremely debaucherous west coast tour followed.  Their second EP, Fucking In The USA, was quickly recorded with friend and studio wizard Ed Ackerson (Polara, Replacements) and showcased some of the band’s expanding influences with hints of The Stooges and Queens of the Stone Age coming through.  After another year of regional performances and writing the band has become a visceral live act, with vocalist Anthony Portz developing into a rock and roll madman, evoking the spirit of Iggy Pop, Nick Cave, and Karen O. “GOLD” is the first release in a series of singles with Los Angeles label Chain Letter Collective (Piebald, Facial, QunQ). The follow up single, “Vacation” will be dropping June 1, 2018.

NOJ will be on tour throughout the Midwest and West Coast this summer. Tour date will be announced soon!
