Detroit’s very unique shoegaze and alternative rock band Majesty Crush, have released a double LP for memories’ sake and it provides great nostalgia for many. Known in the ’90’s for their tenacity and constant shows becoming one of the best-known bands in the Detroit local scene, showcasing with radio play and national acts from the get-go, their memory lives on today.
The band’s frontman David Stroughter, guitarist Mike Segal, bassist Hobey Echlin, and drummer Odell Nails were becoming well-known on an international level. Their momentum was unleashed and explosive, catching the attention of many in the music industry all over the world. After their breakup around 1995, this had given their five years of dedication to a sudden halt.
Now, 2024, years later, bringing their music back has a wonderful bittersweet vibe and certain freeness. Majesty Crush had such an amazing vision and style; it’s difficult to place them in one specific genre. Majesty Crush come from a very hard city and strong music culture. Their inspiration came from the place of hard times, and the vast, raw arsenal of diversity of the city and British punk rock. It breathes heavy in their music, as you will hear. The just-released Butterflies Don’t Go Away is a nice collection for fans old and new to experience. Lead vocalist Stroughter along with his members brought his whole take on music through authenticity as they geared up for nonstop, relentless music development in the 1990s.
All members have moved in different directions since they broke up many moons ago, but now the memory lives on. A No. 1 Fan EP came out this February. The story has been released for the sake of how amazing this band really was. The late Stroughter unfortunately passed away tragically during an altercation in Los Angeles in 2017. Since that record never reached its full potential and capacity, it has inspired past members immensely and just worked out miraculously to bring this back into fruition.
It is now that the Numero Group and Majesty Crush have announced to the masses their LP collection of the band’s discography titled Butterflies Don’t Go Away, released and ready for enjoyment. This collection consists of singles “Cocciolina,” “Uma,” “Penny for Love,” and ” No. 1 Fan,” and of course, we must mention there are some versions that have not been showcased. They are now one beautiful package for the first time ever. Their very diverse catalog is for all music fans.
