Los Angeles birthed a psychedelic rock band many moons ago, they’re called Meatbodies. Check out Meatbodies’ most recent banger album, Flora Ocean Tiger Bloom set for release via In The Red Records, March 8.With extraordinary persistence and diligence, this band brings a whole new perspective to 2024!
The story is a compelling one, about a man that overcomes his past with the haunting memories, trials, and tribulations coming out of the darkness, and into the light. After a “debilitating incident, frontman Chad Ubovich (FUZZ, Ty Segall) is forced to relearn walking and playing the guitar again.” This band has Jane’s Addiction sound with mix of Breeders, to The Smashing Pumpkins to… aliens from outer space. So many sounds and nostalgia are running through my brain as I listen to this band. This whole album is addictive!
Watch the videos “Hole” and “Move.” “Hole”, gives a visual depiction with true and strong intensions. Meatbodies are probably the coolest bands I have ever witnessed. They are not followers of anything, they lead with no apologies, and their lyrical methods and musical exploration is fascinating! Front man Ubovich had to face many demons prior to FLORA.
“A lot has happened with this record – it took me five years, I was out of a band, I had a drug problem, the album almost didn’t happen, the pandemic made it almost not happen again, and then in the end I almost died in the hospital, lost my house, and had to learn how to walk again. It’s been quite a road, but I could not be more thrilled with the final output. I guess the juice is worth the squeeze?” Ubovich’s laughter comes with no regrets.
“Move“, video and song are catchy and hypnotic! The music goes into grasping guitars and drums with the bass wrapping around it like whirlwind, as the vocals give it life. It’s more like a fun road trip with your friends, and it goes to hell and a hand basket! The video takes place in the desert as a group of lady friends take a drive down this desert highway and get lost and lacking lucidity, the whole experience turns into mayhem. Kinda like life, sometimes we get lost and drown in the bullshit for a while.
