New Noise Magazine is pleased to be bringing forth the exclusive music video premiere of “Sounds of Zero” by Davv. The atmospheric tune is lead by a charging rhythm section, drifting into a soundscape of wonder and bliss. The opening instrumental piece sets the tone for the aesthetic of the video and the orchestration, channeling the constant chase of life. Take a listen and view below!
“Sounds of Zero is about continuously pushing forward. A restless rhythm pattern kickstarts the track and eventually becomes the main theme of the video: chasing and being chased.” – Davv
Davv’s latest compositions are infused with a haunting sense of apocalypse. However, despite painting a somber picture with their sound and lyrics, the trio from Zurich also knows how to use spheric guitars and synths along with Dave Schönenberger’s voice to create glimpses of light within darker times.
With “Sounds of Zero” Davv deliver a track that continuously pushes forward, both audibly and palpably. The band is chaser and chased at the same time. The former aspect is constituted most prominently in the powerful, relentless rhythm section. The latter resides within the calm and soothing voice of Dave Schönenberger. His singing complements the rhythm section fittingly and often explores the side of the chased, whose only prospect lies in the future: Sounds of Zero concludes with the line “if you fear the dawn, you better don’t look back.” The theme of Sounds of Zero becomes graspable at the very beginning of the track, when Schönenberger sings “all I see is trouble today, good news they fade away”: What begins today is already gone by tomorrow. This topic has been pertinently transformed into images in the videoclip to Sounds of Zero (directed by Patrischa Freuler / Perceptif). Coping with the past, escape and fear of confrontation are impressively embodied by protagonist Peter Hottinger (‘der Hamster’, ‘der Bestatter’). But it’s not just Hottinger who, in the clip, tries to escape the ghosts of his past, it’s also the band: Davv complement the acting and the mise-en-scène with their tenacious sound. Music and image consistently add to each other and act jointly to powerfully transport the overarching theme.
