A thunderous roar led by the rhythm section of Great Grief kicks off “Pathetic.” Soon after, the vocals and guitar add a solemn melody to the grueling bellow. A combination of sung vocals mash with howling screams, bending guitars and a steady pulse of bombastic crashes. With a music video tinged with haunting themes, the song is a perfect combination of blitzing energy and reflection. Take a listen below and find the tune on the newest release, Love, Lust and Greed, which was distributed via No Sleep Records.
“Great Grief is a band from Reykjavík, Iceland formed in 2013. Known as one of the driving forces behind the Reykjavík hardcore scene. They’ve not only pushed the boundaries of songwriting with their distinct sound, but also as performers. Playing over 150 shows all over Iceland, U.S and Canada, and earning a reputation as one of Iceland’s hardest working bands, putting their bodies on the line every night and holding nothing back.
The bands first release Ascending // Descending was recorded in a bedroom during the months of January and February in 2014. It was an independent release that later caught the attention of German DIY Vinyl label Lifeisafunnything, who later re-released the EP on 12” Vinyl. Shortly after that they headed out to the U.S and performed with such bands as Full of Hell, letlive, The Acacia Strain, and Touché Amoré.
In June of 2015, the band began working on their second release. A split EP with Buffalo, NY’s very own Bungler. Great Grief’s side of the split was recorded on a farm in West Virginia by Levi Miller, and was mixed by Ryan Harvey. It was released in November of 2015, and a month long tour with Bungler followed.
The band recently partnered with Party Smasher Inc. management, which is lead by Ben Weinman of The Dillinger Escape Plan and Anthony Gesa of Gatherers.”
