New Noise Magazine is pleased to be bringing forth the exclusive premiere of “SMS” by Lucy Arnell. This slacker garage rock tune is set to a video that rolls through different scenes with a trance like pace. There’s a lot of reserved emotion that slowly builds until the song’s end. Take a listen and view below! “SMS” is off of the upcoming release Anyways Any (produced by Jason Abraham Roberts), out on September 28th.
“‘SMS’ reflects on dogs and the anger stage of grief. Brian Harding (of Blond Ambition and Ex Cops) is an empathetic songwriter who understood the sentiment in a complex way. The video, which my sister helped create, tries to convey the notion by questioning if what’s seemingly out of place is actually secure.” – Lucy Arnell
On her sophomore LP, Arnell basks in the hazy bliss of life’s disconnects while embodying the erratic ambiance of reality through headbanging escapism. Growing up in New York City, she had a book of her art published by Andre Leon Talley and Rizzoli Books at age five. As she evolved into adulthood, she landed in San Francisco, solidifying her guitar as an extension of herself in the psychedelic embrace of Janis and Jimi. Her rose colored voice became untamed as she relocated to Los Angeles. Her command is apparent throughout Anyways Any, as she evokes stoic lyrics in “MTV’s Daria” brilliance and unleashed musicianship. Anyways Any is more of a warning sign than a welcome wagon that Arnell has arrived.
