New Noise Magazine is pleased to bring forth the highly visual “MiddleMan” by Pet Envy. There’s an eerie narrative floating through the ambiance, with the band’s grace helping keep the charm rolling. Take a listen and watch this journey of a project below!

“‘MiddleMan’ is about the gatekeepers of the music industry seeking control over your art, and ultimately realizing you can do things on your own. For the video, our middleman villain has a paper-bag-head to represent how the industry middleman wears many faces and shows up in many forms.

It was such a great representation of being pushed around by an authority figure, or by someone who doesn’t understand your end goal but, still wants to control the inner workings of whatever is happening as a group. We prevailed as a cohesive unit over the middleman and his followers, showing our strength through love and dedication.” -Pet Envy

Pet Envy is a pop-rock quintet based in Nashville, TN consisting of Shelbi Albert (vocals), Jake Diggity (vocals, guitar), Emma Lambiase (vocals, bass), Jordan Klatt (keys, synth), and Matthew Singler (drums). Established in 2015, the band is building a loyal fanbase through fun and inclusive live performances. The band radiates a natural vibe that they’re having more fun than the crowd is, allowing each person in the room to unashamedly move and dance as if they were all alone in the comfort of their own home. All of your insecurities seem to disappear at a Pet Envy show.

With shared influences ranging from Prince, Talking Heads and Motown, Pet Envy brings something unique to the indie rock sphere. At the intersection of pop and new wave, Pet Envy is sure to delight fans of MGMT, Empire of the Sun, Fitz and the Tantrums, Foster the People, Misterwives, Chromeo, Phoenix, The Killers, The xx.

Between 2016 and 2017 they released two EPs. The band finds themselves in a darker and more definitive indie rock space than their previous releases on “Middleman”. The new single represents a shift for the band towards a co-lead three part harmony vocal dynamic between Diggity, Albert and Lambiase. The track is the first that Diggity takes the reins on lead vocals, and Lambiase introduces her voice, both previously singing background or call and response with Albert, Pet Envy’s captain of vocal gymnastics. To achieve this sonic evolution, the band took a more collaborative approach to songwriting and employed a top studio team: their co-producer Joshua Reynolds  (Little Big Town, Dancing on Tables) and was mastered by Nathan Dantzler (Ellie Goulding, Niall Horan).

Pet Envy has worked with Roy Agee (Prince), Jeff Coffin (Dave Matthews Band) and Nathan McLeod (Ron Pope) to make up the horn section of some of their performances. Agee and Coffin also play on their sophomore EP, Flowers for Your Brain (2017) also co-produced by Reynolds.
