New Noise Magazine is pleased to be bringing forth the exclusive music video premiere for “Knock Knockin'” by Wonderly Road. The song touches on the grief that comes with loss and trauma. Wonderly Road has been an effort for vocalist Josh Baird. After re-learning how to play the guitar, Baird eventually signed up for Opera lessons. The uniqueness of Baird’s talent shines through “Knock Knockin'”.

“Knockin’ deals with the unavoidable and falling into patterns that lead you there much quicker. Finding that light in your life that makes this whole thing worth while and makes you want to stay as long as you can.” Josh Baird

Josh Baird was the drummer of a touring punk band on the outs and was ready to tell the story of his life—he just wasn’t sure how. All he knew was the next step involved putting down the sticks and picking up a guitar. The pieces began to fall into place after hearing Kacey Musgraves’ album, Same Trailer, Different Park—the modern day gateway drug to country music. This was the beginning of Wonderly Road.

After falling in love with Musgrave’s album in 2013, Baird made a New Years resolution to start a country project with his brother Robert and learn proper finger picking. Robert already had a history playing rockabilly and country music before his stint as second guitarist of Broadway Calls. Playing on their first album and touring until he had his first daughter. Meanwhile, Josh dabbled on guitar, but it only made sense to take this new endeavor seriously with lessons. Years in the van with his band were spent listening to the Gin Blossoms, The Refreshments and Limbeck as a sort of twang foundation that would pay off later. After a few months of lessons and long commutes to Portland, he learned everything he needed to start practicing on his own and make his dream a reality.

“I started from scratch, really,” says Baird. “I’ve been playing guitar for a long time, but I wanted to be better at what I was doing. The whole vocal thing was a real challenge!”
