News: New MF Doom Action Figure, Apparel, and ‘Vaudeville Villain’ Vinyl Reissue

MF Doom

Super7, a pop culture design house based out of San Francisco, makes delightful action figures from well-known properties. They have teamed up with Rhymesayers Entertainment and MF Doom’s estate for the newest entry into their ReAction series: a 3.85-inch MF Doom action figure. The figure is modeled after the cover artwork of Doom’s extremely confident 1999 debut Operation: Doomsday.

Features include his trademark hoodie and mask as well as a microphone accessory. A limited run apparel line of Doomsday inspired T-shirts, hoodies, and even baby onesies is also being released by the Doom estate. Visit Gasdrawls.com for more information.

His estate has also announced earlier this month that his 2003 classic Vaudeville Villain will soon be re-pressed for vinyl. Doom recorded Villain during a time of fertile creativity, one year before he and Madlib released their landmark Madvillainy LP as Madvillain. The record tells the story of a time-traveling MC whose time machine breaks down in the early ’90’s underground rap scene in New York. Villain is populated with outlandish characters, sinister production, and hilarious depictions of brutal open mics.

Doom plays Viktor, a shady hustler who puts himself and others in many compromising situations. The duet “Can I Watch?” with Apani B captures this well while retaining the record’s impish humor. Sound-Ink members King Honey, Heat Sensor, and Max Bill provide the suffocatingly rugged sci-fi production. RJD2 produces the track “Saliva,” however. The album holds up very well, providing further proof of MF Doom’s captivating skills on the mic.

Vaudeville Villain’s vinyl packaging includes a 12-inch gatefold jacket with spot metallic silver print, silver double vinyl, printed labels, and dust sleeves. Preorder is available now; visit Gasdrawls.com for more information.
