Australian singer-songwriter Alex Lahey brings pure joy to listeners around the world. “Don’t Be so Hard on Yourself,” the first single from her sophomore album The Best of Luck Club, is a self care anthem for anyone who needs to hear it. The saxophone is a nice touch, too.

Full of Hell – “Burning Myrrh”

Over the past few years, extreme metal band Full of Hell have risen to become one of the top bands in their genre. “Burning Myrrh,” the opening track off their newest album Weeping Choir, is every bit as heavy and abrasive as the band’s previous work.

Frenso, California’s Haunt have an old school 80’s metal sound, but they’re not just a nostalgia act; they can really shred. “Defender” is a perfect track to blast on your next road trip.

Glassing – “Follow Through”

Glassing are the type of band that takes you on a journey. The six minute duration of “Spotted Horse” takes all kinds of unexpected twists and turns that make for an interesting and thoughtful listen.

Imperial Wax – “No Man’s Land”

Album: Gastwerk Saboteurs (Saustex Records)
Comprised of members of the legendary U.K. punk band The Fall, Imperial Wax’s debut album is out today. “No Man’s Land,” the first single from Gastwerk Saboteurs is an energetic post-punk song from the Manchester group.

Minor Poet – “Tropic of Cancer”

Album: The Good News (Subpop Records)

Fans of upbeat indie-pop will love “Tropic of Cancer,” the second track on Minor Poet’s new album, The Good News. With a dancey beat and a great synth number, the project by Andrew Carter is absolute fun.

Saint Vitus – “12 Years In The Tomb”

Album: Saint Vitus (Season of Mist Records)

One of the longest reigning doom bands, Saint Vitus is back with their ninth studio album. “12 Years In The Tomb” is a riffy track with morbid lyrics to enjoy during a rainy night in.

Aseethe – “No Realm”

Album: Throes (Thrill Jockey Records)

“No Realm” is a gloomy, heavy track off of Aseethe’s new EP, Throes. The darkness on this track is thicker than blood, and the breakdown in the middle ties the two halves of the song together nicely.

Paladin – “Awakening”

Album: Ascension (Prosthetic Records)

If you’re in the mood for an adventure, get on board with Paladin and sail away while listening to “Awakening.” The over-the-top vocals are so enjoyable, and the fantastical lyrics will get you hyped for your next D&D campaign.

Kurt Travis – “Easy Peasy”

Album: There’s a Place I Want to Take You (Blue Swan Records)

There are a lot of metal albums out today. To wind down from the adrenaline, check out something on the other end of the spectrum: “Easy Peasy,” a single from Kurt Travis’ new record, There’s a Place I Want to Take You. It’s a short, sweet, soothing pop track with interesting vocal layers that give it a familial tone.
