News: The Frst Collaborate With Jaret Reddick on New Song

The Frst

Nashville natives The Frst collaborate with pop punk legend Jaret Reddick on its new song “Almost There.” The track blends the emo-rap style Sueco or MGK with the iconic sound of Bowling For Soup.

“’Almost There’ is sort of a reflective piece about struggling with mental health,” singer and songwriter Mikei Gray explains. “Which I think is something we can all relate to. Musically it draws as much from punk rock as it does from pop and hip-hop.

It’s not the first time The Frst partnered with scene legends. The band used members of Sleeping With Sirens on its track “You’re On Your Own Kid” while “Torpedo” featured The Dangerous Summer. But Reddick says he was skeptical when the band approached him about the song.

“I was a bit skeptical. I mean, I love their stuff, but where does my voice fit with them stylistically?” Reddick asks. “When I heard ‘Almost There,’ I was instantly sucked in. Such a killer song with great melodies.”

The Frst showcases a genre blending style that is exactly what thrives in alternative music. The band can shift between hip hop and pop punk with ease, with the ability to sharpen the edges like Nu Punk artists.
