Connecticut-based pop punk band Always Grounded release their newest song titled “Life Commitments & Heartburn Prescriptions,” an aptly titled track about aging. It’s the band’s first release of 2023.
“I wrote this song about me coming to terms with the fact I am no longer as young as I mentally feel,” singer RJ Dionne says. Dionne also tours on the independent wrestler circuit, which he calls “the source of my caffeine and ibuprofen addictions.”
The track is simple, catchy, and relatable. Lines like “getting old sucks, there’s nothing I can do about it” and “I think I’m turning into my mom and dad” hit. The references to pain medication also add a pinch of dark humor.
“Getting prescribed heartburn medication, being newly married, and buying a house, life has left me feeling like a 48-year-old in a 26-year-old’s body,” Dionne says.
With their Wheatus-like vocals blended with polished, prime pop-punk melodies, genre regulars will feel right at home with Always Grounded. “Life Commitments & Heartburn Prescriptions,” in particular, allow each of the strengths to shine. The background yells help the song pop.
Always Grounded will open for rock and alternative artist Craig Owens when he tours through Connecticut on July, 1. For tickets and to listen to more of Always Grounded’s music, click here.
