Amigo The Devil announces the third single from the forthcoming studio album Yours Until the War is Over set to be released on February 23 via Liars Club Records.
Amigo The Devil is an artist that channels a voice of raw truth and unsettling beauty in modern folk and alternative rock. Mastermind Danny Kiranos creates tales from his own visions and a refreshing frankness that are intelligent, emotional, and clever. Tucked away in the nooks and crannies of Amigo the Devil’s eerie tunes and audacious experimentation is a story as deep as the songs he sings.
“Once Upon a Time at Texaco (Pt.1)” is a fantastical bar chant that tells the story of a robbery gone wrong but turns into a tragic comedy. The banjo-driven spiraling tale leads to the visualization of death and destruction. This is dark and thought-provoking.
Kiranos shares of his songwriting process: “When I write stories, I usually visualize the scenery and atmosphere of it before analyzing the words or circumstances. Most of those initial instincts with color and temperament directly relate to how the concept of the physical music that’s written up to that point makes me feel. I remember the initial lead banjo line was the first part written, and I kept thinking that it was genuinely fun but dry and completely unpredictable. None of that has to make sense in that moment, just that it has to be accepted for what it is. After that part is dialed, the story writes itself if you let it. I think the end result is incredibly indicative of those initial reactions within.”
Amigo The Devil’s music is surprisingly enlightening, and Kiranos’ unusual perspective and inquisitive story telling will leave you intrigued.
