News: Årabrot’s New Record ‘Of Darkness And Light’ Out Now

Årabrot

Art rockers Årabrot have recently released their 10th full length album Of Darkness And Light via Berlin’s Pelagic Records. If you follow the band, you know that Årabrot have rocked different sounds and sizes throughout their career, capturing different moods and textures while exploring and pushing the outer reaches of genre. Their new record Of Darkness And Light brings together a variety of musical ideas, inspirations, and experiences. In the end, the vibe and sound of the album is distinctly Årabrot.

Singer, songwriter Karin Park’s contribution to Of Darkness And Light features her glowing synth work and haunting harmonies juxtaposed against Kjetil Nernes’ dissonant, and harsh guitar work. Many of the songs on this record are a reflection on his second chance at life having survived throat cancer.

Kjetil Nernes on ‘Of Darkness And Light’:

“The album’s title is inspired by Nietzche’s ‘Thus Spoke Zarathustra’—a philosophical text centered on self-overcoming, of transcending our own limitations. Or, in other words, when you’re down in the dirt, you have to climb out of it and find a way to make it all better.”

Of Darkness And Light was recorded in Djura Missionshus, the 150-year old Gothic church where Kjetil and Karin live and work in. It was produced by Alain Johannes (PJ Harvey, Queens of the Stone Age, Them Crooked Vultures).
